Michael McDonald
Under the hot sun with temps in the mid 80's at 7:12 pm, the show got underway. Michael McDonald, wearing a soaked long sleeve oxford shirt by the end of the set which lasted slightly over an hour, sat down at his keyboard. One of the best voices ever and still in great form, he ripped through 14 or 15 songs with incredible sounding vocals. He was joined by 5 band members and 2 background singers, creating an awesome display in that time. McDonald also kept things in good humor with many quick witted responses.
The recent Motown covers, and one or two newer tracks, the set list was an amazing mix of Doobie Brothers favorites, solo hits, and solo hits. I was not disappointed! A loud train streamrolled along the tracks that sit just outside the venue toward the end of the set during "Minute By Minute". Many of the performers were caught off guard but Michael McDonald managed to crack a joke right on cue. I'm very glad I was able to witness this amazing artist for the first time! I only wish he could have played more.
